Gun Control in America

I have decided that defining American Patriotism is too broad to narrow down specifically. However, it brought me to a similar topic, gun control.
"Pry it out of my cold dead hands"
America today is in the lead for the most guns per household worldwide. The country was founded on freedom and one particular freedom that raises immense debates is the right to bear arms. As stated in the second amendment of the constitution, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.",
The sole topic of the day corresponds with perhaps the most controversial subject in American gun control politics.
Should the 2nd Amendment still remain in full affect today?
As a responsible gun owner myself, I would argue that guns shall remain in the hands of every responsible American who wishes to own a firearm. Not only is it an American tradition, but it's a freedom founded by the forefathers that responsible Americans should not be deprived of. That being said, all bias will be put aside to discuss the antithetical views pertaining to gun control.

1. How Americans view gun control from a pro-gun control stance: (According to procon.org)

- The 2nd Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns
- More gun control laws would reduce deaths
High-capacity magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder
The presence of a gun makes a conflict more likely to become violent
Guns are rarely used in self-defense

2. How Americans view gun control from an anti-gun control stance:

The Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects individual gun ownership
- More gun control is unnecessary because relatively few people are killed by guns
Gun control laws give too much power to the government and may result in government tyranny
Gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws
Gun control laws infringe upon the right to self-defense and deny people a sense of safety

It is clear that factual information to back a claim is particularly difficult when it comes to such a two sided topic. Both sides have legitimate claims for why the support or don't support gun control. This topic will be discussed in greater detail in upcoming blogs.

Reflection on My Research

Before researching gun laws in depth, I learned a number of things unbeknownst to me in the past. Even as a responsible gun owner and advo...
